GET TO KNOW THE MUNICIPALITY > DROSSOCHORI
7 km from Dessi, 72 km from Trikala, lies the village of Drossochori, opposite Dessi at an altitude of 950 m. Its 400 inhabitants, stock-breeders and loggers, abandon the village in the winter. The peaks of Tsouka (1500m), Tsarta (1400m) and Avgo (2180m) tower over Drossochori. The springs of Krya Vrissi and Perdikovrissi refresh the village, while the 8 m waterfall of «Mother of the Water» enhances the unique beauty of the landscape.
The church of Aghion Apostolon (1867) celebrating on June 29th is still preserved. On this day the locals offer «blots», a traditional food based on blougouri (coarse ground wheat). Among the various local folk songs stands out the song of Siana, a beautiful girl from Tyfloseli who eloped with her lover.
Famous in the past, the village tailors sold their hand-made costumes in all the villages of the plains. Drossochori was burned to the ground by the Germans in 1943.
